Archaeology Festival 2018
Our festival of archaeology comes to The Collection and Posterngate from 23rd to 28th July 2018
Programme of events:
Anglo Saxon Autopsy
Monday 23rd July
A chance to find out what the Anglo-Saxons buried with their dead (and possibly why). An interactive talk. 12.30 £3 per head.
Archaeology Day
Tuesday 24th July
Our sixth Archaeology Day. The Collection is full of stalls from various groups and there are free informal talks, a family friendly film and dig workshops (for the latter there is a small charge), timetable below.
Archaeology Training
Wednesday 25th July 10am -12:30pm
An archaeology training session aimed at ages 13 - 18 year olds.
This session plans to be as hands-on as possible! We intend to teach you the basic skills of being an archaeologist including surveying a site (outside if the sun shines), digging (in a simulated dig), recording and analysing artefacts. The team has years of experience of bringing archaeology to life in an engaging and often light-hearted manner. We might even teach you how to stop a fake …………

Archaeology for Everyone conference
Thursday 26th July 10am - 4pm
Mini conference for people interested about knowing more about Archaeology. £25 per head.

Lunchtime lecture - 'The Origins of the Olympians'
Friday 27th July 12.30 - 1pm
Join Collections Development Officer Antony Lee for an exploration of how the ancient Greeks thought the universe began, and some of the strange stories surrounding how their gods came into being.
Tickets cost £3 per person
Posterngate
Saturday 28th July
The Roman Posterngate is open from 10am to 3.30pm. £3 adults and £2 children. Note that the entrance is on Saltergate, not at The Collection.
