Viewpoints: Collective Visions
Viewpoints brings together two photographers that work within the documentary genre, highlighting varied approaches of documenting the world today.
Images define the world to us, and us to the world. In this exhibition documentary photographer Tom Martin explores the moral and political challenges encountered when trying to represent vulnerable communities with honesty and authenticity.
The exhibition shows Tom’s own images alongside documentary films made about a youth photography project in Rwanda. By placing these images together we explore ways of seeing these communities from divergent points of view.
British freelance photographer Tom Martin specialises in documenting humanitarian issues in Africa and Asia, working with charities and organisations including the EU and UN. His publications range from The Economist and The Independent to Italian Vogue and The Lancet. He has exhibited widely with solo shows in Westminster and Rwanda and has been selected for the Taylor Wessing Photo Prize at the National
Portrait Gallery. He is a lecturer in photography at the University of Lincoln.
