Online Learning

Over the next few weeks you will find a range of activities in the following topic areas from our work at The Collection Museum and Usher Gallery. These include Dinosaurs & Fossils, Prehistory, Ancient Egyptians, Ancient Greeks, Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Vikings and Creative Arts. We will number them in each category so you will know which ones you have done already. Go for it!

Week One

Did you know that Lincolnshire was once home to amazing sea creatures like ammonites and plesiosaurs? This week, the learning team have been busy coming up with some fun Jurassic sea activities to keep you busy at home, including arty fossil pebbles. Why not download our fun fact sheet and activity ideas? You can find these in the right side bar section of this page. 

We've even created an interactive quiz over on Kahoot! You just need the special PIN 0898605 to access it (also found on the downloadable PDF).

Week Two

Do you have the skills to survive in the stone age? This week, the Investigate Learning Team have created a fact sheet about life in the mesolithic, or middle stone age, and had fun with some cave art and shelter building. 
We've also created a new interactive quiz over on Kahoot! You just need the special PIN 02594209 to give it a go! (pin also on downloadable PDF)

Week Three

Do you want to learn about some really interesting Romans? This week you can discover more about Gaius Valerius, a soldier of the ninth legion, whose tombstone is displayed in the museum.  The Investigate Learning Team have created a factsheet and activities to try at home that can be found in the side section of this page.

Week Four

This week the Investigate Learning team are linking to the theme of the Mayflower and the exhibition ‘Wampum: Stories from the Shells of Native America'. Our learning activities will be online on Wednesday and Friday and will link you to other websites too to find out more about the Mayflower travellers and the Wampanoag people they met in America in 1620.

Suitable for all the family, with children aged 8+.

Week Five

This week the Investigate Learning team are taking you back to Anglo Saxon times with a new activity sheet where you can explore what Anglo Saxon people wore! Learn all about the different clothes that people wore and have a go at weaving something yourself!

We have also included the weaving video here, so you can access it without having to download the PDF if you need.

Week Six

The Investigate Learning Team have created another Anglo-Saxon factsheet, and this week it's all about their language and writing. 

See if you can solve some Anglo-Saxon riddles and write in Futhark runes!

Investigate Creative Arts Wildflower Trail

This week the Investigate learning team have been venturing on wildlife trails inspired by the art works in the Usher collection. Why not go out on  your own trail and be inspired to create your own drawings and paintings.

Week Seven

The Investigate learning team have been reformatting all of their outreach kits and will have four new Creative Arts kits – with canvases and other arts artefacts alongside the history kits. One of the new Creative Arts kits being developed for the Autumn will have a Lincoln theme and this week’s learning resource invites you to have a go at landscape drawing or painting. It even includes J.M.W. Turner’s watercolour painting from our collection to inspire you to get creative!

We will be launching the new offer over the summer so watch this space!
