Booking your visit

When we have taken your booking requirements, we will send you a booking form to complete via email. Where possible, please book at least 2 months in advance.

Half-day workshops – maximum of 40 pupils
All-day workshops – maximum of 90 pupils

Recommended ratios of adults are 1:10 for KS2 and 1:8 for KS1


£5.75 per pupil for a half day workshop
£8.50 per pupil for a whole day workshop


Please note that there is a minimum charge of the equivalent of 30 pupils


Please request a space for lunch in the museum when you make your booking. On fine days it is possible to have a picnic lunch on the lawns of the Usher Gallery grounds.

Gift shop

The museum has a well-stocked gift shop with lots of items under £2.00. School parties are welcome in small groups with accompanied adults. Go to the Shop page

Self directed visits

You are very welcome to visit the museum independently with your class. Please book in advance. There is a timeline tour of the museum galleries available designed for teachers and Key Stage Two pupils, highlighting artefacts on the timeline.

Loan boxes

Loan boxes are available for all the subjects we cover. The boxes contain a mixture of real and replica objects for handling and display together with information, photographs and suggested classroom activities supporting Key Stage Two curriculum, but can be used with any age.
